Gourmet Dining in the Heartlands: $12 for $25 Worth of Western Cuisine at Sady's Diner in Toa Payoh

Sady’s Diner satiates guests with an ample menu of American fare and even classic Spanish and Latin favourites for a hearty non-local dining experience. The cooks in the diner’s kitchen crowd a grill with sizzling patties with choices of beef, fish and chicken. Hearty burgers such as the Meat Loaf Burger ($5), Philly Cheese Burger ($6.50) and the Sloppy Dude ($6.50) romp on fluffy buns loaded with beef with mixed cheese sauce, onion and capsicum, and flavourful sauces.

Reminiscent of NY pushcart style grub, the restaurant’s hot dogs are prepared to emulate this famous American street food. Diners can choose franks with different accouterments such as sloppy bbq sauce on the BBQ Dog ($4), minced beef with salsa and cheese sauce on the Chilli Cheese Dog ($5), or tomato sauce with capsicum, onions and potatoes on the Italian Dog ($5).

Speaking of Italian, the diner’s menu also unleashes a veritable flood of Italian-American pizzas, drenching hunger pangs with various choices of this very famous flatbread in Personal 7” and Family 14” sizes. Get hands messy on the Jersey (beef salami, chicken sausage, mushrooms and onions), the Chili Con Carne (minced beef, salsa and melted cheese) or dive into the deep end with Del Mar (calamari, shrimp and scallop).

Sady’s Diner also throws sensory fiestas for taste buds with a menu chock-full of freshly prepared Latin specialties. For $9, fold the Quesadilla, toasted or fried flour tortilla blankets over an ocean of savory stuffing of chicken or beef blended with cheese and topped with salsa, sour cream and tomato bruschetta. A roundup of hearty Latin entrees includes traditional burritos rolled with a bevy of accouterments and a choice of vegetable ($8), chicken ($9), or minced beef ($9.50).

If all that mish mash is still not enough, go all out and load on carb-heavy Arroz Con Pollo ($8) or not-for-the-timid Steak N Mash ($10). On a different plate of Seafood Paella ($10), peacemaking clams get between quarreling prawns over a bed of Spanish rice, refusing to let either sauce-smothered savory leave the plate without hugging the other.
