Dinnertime in a panda household is not a tremendously enjoyable affair due to Mama Panda’s rather restricted cooking repertoire of bamboo shoots, leaves, roots and stalks. Avoid monochromatic dining experiences with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of Chinese cuisine at Gu Ma Jia Food Pot.

Boasting a warm, communal atmosphere reminiscent of family gatherings, Gu Ma Jia Food Pot offers a smorgasbord of Chinese cuisine that promises to satiate even the most prosperously-figured cousin. Cure fowl fever by devouring the establishment’s signature dishes: Dang Gui Roasted Duck ($22 for half) or the simply named but fantastically flavored Steamed Chicken ($16 for half). Move from turf to surf with the huge range of seafood offered in a variety of styles. Sri Lanka Crabs (seasonal price) are up for grabs in the following cooking methods: Chilli, Baked with Butter and Salted Egg, Steamed with Egg White and Wine, to name a few. The Assam Fish Head ($23) is another transcendental crowd-pleaser with its tangy flavor and fresh ingredients, not to mention the other perfectly prepared fish dishes such as the delicate Hong Kong Steamed Cod ($8.50 per 100g).

Located in a convenient location near the Potong Pasir MRT, fare for famished families is now laughingly accessible. Rest assured, bamboo is nowhere to be found on the extensive menu.

Reviews:
“The kick from the chili and spice in the Assam Fish Head isn't apparent from the first few bites, but you'll start "feeling the heat" as you continue eating. All the roasted meats here are charcoal-roasted by one of "Gu Ma's" brothers. The duck has a beautiful golden-brown hue and wonderfully crispy and flavourful skin- which some may argue is the best part of the duck! The big, juciy prawn rolls taste truly "homemade", thanks to the painstaking preparation of the ingredients for the filling, the quality and quantity of which aren't compromised at all. The same can be said for the soups and other dishes.” - The New Paper
