Like the melting pot of ethnicities in Singapore, Ambush is the product of European nomads who have traded their lifestyle of nomadic chili cook-offs to combine forces in a permanent venture of scrumptious victuals from their respective motherlands. Or, at least, that seems to be the most logical deduction when viewing the restaurant’s extensive menu of European inspired dishes.
Taste buds get limber with the newspaper-like menu’s palate stretchers, including hot and juicy Mini Sausage Platter ($8.80). Jigs of satiety ensue when stomach rumbles partner up with the Stack Grilled Hamburger ($17.95), an all-cow patty draped delicately in melted cheese and grilled to meaty goodness.
Ocean loyalists can stand by their seafood with the Mussels or Clams Pot cooked in a style of their choice and the deliciosa Ambush Paella, the distinctive Spanish dish comprising of mussels, scallop, prawns and the occasional sausage over a bed of tomato-drenched rice.
If peckish pasta cravings begin to manifest, zoom in on the Italian section of the menu for the Vongole in White Wine Sauce Pasta ($12.50) or Wild Salmon Fillet in Thai Basil Sauce Pasta ($12.00). Then, round off the trip around the world and satiate the second human stomach with international dessert favourites, Tiramisu or Molten Chocolate Brownie.
Ambush Paella, $13.80. Was a little surprised to see it more like a risotto since the rice is so wet instead of the usual drier paella rice. The flavor is also heavy on tomato instead of saffron. If you look pass its paella label though, it's actually a pretty good dish. The toppings, which include mussels, scallop, prawns and sausage were plentiful, the rice retained its bite and the tomato flavor wasn’t overpowering."
