For years, a new breed of Singaporean youths has been biding their time, practicing their sleight-of-hand skills on EZ-Link consoles and attempting to vanish final year Physics papers. With today’s Groupon, the talented young magicians may now unleash their powers unto the world: for $12, you get a Regular Seating Ticket at ‘M for Magic Live!’ at Sinema Old School (worth $25). Upgrade to a premium seat for an additional $5 (to be paid on the day of the show) to get a closer glimpse of the action.
Mount the aptly-named Mount Sophia, housing Singapore’s first and only independent theatre. After supporting and training talented locals, Sinema Old School hands the stage over to 14 aspiring conjurers. Based on Fly Entertainment’s Internet TV program ‘M for Magic’, these crafty magic-makers have honed their skills and passion on the street – prepare to be dazzled by the high standard of inspired wizardry, interactive challenges and psychological illusions that leaves Copperfield in the dust.
Choose from any one of two shows, hosted by local magician-extraordinaire J C Sum – winner of Merlin Award for Most Original Illusionist of the Year 2009. For an additional $5, scoot up to the first two rows and stake your place with premium seats (worth $30). You never know – you might spy a sly card or nimble finger in action.
