The ten-day tour commences in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey. Once dominated by Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires, numerous royal palaces and religious monuments now stand in remembrance of the land's regal past. One of the most popular attractions here is the Blue Mosque with its dome made of distinctive blue porcelain tiles, while a half-mile away, the Hagia Sophia combines restored Christian mosaics with Islamic scrollwork.
