The Deal

Gurney Drive is a famous food location in George Town, Penang, formerly known as North Beach, and named after Sir Henry Gurney. The eponymous restaurant brings its patrons to the heart and soul of Penang, with access to its famous hawker food at a very reasonable price.

Dishes to note include the Gurney Drive Signature Dish - the Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodle ($6.20), developed by their in-house chef using a special prawn-based soup, traditional yellow noodle, big prawns, pork ribs, fish cakes, bean sprouts and kang kong.

Patrons can choose to tag team and tackle meatier chef recommendations like the Premium Grilled Seafood Platter for 2 ($20.90) which features an assemblage of grilled sea favourites, or the Premium Seafood Fried Koay Teow ($9.90), a proud Penang ambassador of spicy fried kway teow with added prawns, squids and cockles.

Specialty house side dishes, such as the Penang Rojak ($4.20) and Gong Bao Mantis Prawn ($6.90) work to flavourfully sharpen dull incisors while the Gurney Stuffed Beancurd ($4.20) and Belacan Chicken Wing ($4.90) are recommended peace offerings to rowdy tykes.

Of course, a huge variety of hot and cold beverages is a sure fire complement to your meal with Signature Drinks such as the Ampla Juice rich in Vitamin C, and Jackfruit Juice ($2.90 or $3.50) highly recommended by their customers. Or delve deeper into the Penang experience with perennial favourites Penang Cendol ($2.90) and the King of Ice Kacang ($5.90), so named to commemorate the King of Fruits itself, the durian.

Unlike dining on the streets of yesteryear however, patrons can dine in comfort and relaxation while enjoying great food, service and environment in the modern restaurant that transports diners, albeit temporarily, to the land of its food origins.
